Shawn has been a member of the KBA since 1990 and has actively worked in the organization since 1994 when he shadowed Ron Smith around the State Capitol learning the legislative process. The Kansas Bowhunters Association has been important to his life because it dovetailed so closely with his own views on bowhunting and its approach to conservation.

According to Shawn, archery and bowhunting exhibit many strong personalities. As participants in both, we are all passionate and opinionated, so for an organization like the KBA to be approaching four decades in existence is testament to our ability to transcend those differences. We have evolved and grown from a group of “like minded Bowhunters” to a truly recognized conservationist group that strives to protect our privileges as Bowhunters as well as sound management of the wildlife resources that we pursue. We work and promote good causes that, in reality, benefit all wildlife.

Shawn has been married to his wife Thalia just a little longer than his association with the KBA. She is a supportive non-hunter that keeps things afloat at their home in Tecumseh and is the best tutor their daughter Sloane has ever had! They are occasionally his photographers and are always the best listeners to his hunting stories. Shawn works in Overland Park for HMN Architects, focusing on healthcare and justice architecture.

After a long run as the Legislative Chairman and two terms as the Northeast Representative Shawn is excited to be working for you as the KBA President and promises he will continue to keep pushing our organization forward.
